Details: A somber candlelight walk around the Cardinal Gibbons' trackwill represent walking a mile in the shoes of a homeless youth. The vigilalso will feature music, inspirational speakers and refreshments.

Orlando Candlelight Vigil

Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Lake Eola Park, 101 N. Rosalind Avenue, Orlando
Details: Several hundred youth will walk with lit candles in a somberprocession from the Cathedral Church at Saint Luke, 130 North MagnoliaAvenue, to Lake Eola Amphitheater. Walkers will place their candles on theamphitheater stage to honor each homeless teen served by Covenant Housethis past year. Program will include inspiring words from teens andsupporters, music, prayer and praise.

November 20 marks the day when local vigils organized by churches, collegesand service organizations will be hosted in partnership with Covenant HouseInternational. In addition to the Fort Lauderdale event, vigils will beheld across the United States and internationally. The vigils coincidewith National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week and National RunawayPrevention Month.
"The Covenant House Vigils deliver the powerful message that runaway andhomeless youth need widespread support in their communities so that theycan find safe shelter and help leading to family reunification or anotherstable environment," said James M. Gress, executive director of CovenantHouse Florida. "Together, we pray to strengthen our kids, their families,and ourselves."
Opened in Fort Lauderdale in 1985 and expanded to Orlando in 1995, CovenantHouse Florida reaches over 200 teens a day via street outreach, crisisshelters, transitional housing projects, and walk-in and aftercare services, making itone of the largest private agencies serving runaway and homeless youth inthe state of Florida.
