BRAMALEA, ONTARIO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 06/27/08 -- After over 30 hours straight of driving, running, biking, climbing and kayaking through the back woods of Kenauk in Montebello, Quebec without sleep, four adventure racing competitors came out victorious, if not a little weary and bruised, to win the Land Rover G4 Challenge Canadian National Selections.

With this victory, Leanne Mueller of Bolton, Ontario, Sophie Deschamps of Gatineau, Quebec, Geoff Outerbridge also of Gatineau, Quebec and Andrew "The Auger" Cameron of London, Ontario move on to the G4 Challenge International Selections event at Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire, UK in early 2009. At the UK event, one male and one female competitor from those two teams will be selected to represent Canada against teams from 17 other countries in the three-week-long Land Rover G4 Challenge finals in Asia mid-2009.

"The Land Rover G4 Challenge epitomizes the spirit of adventure," said Barbara Barrett, communications manager for Land Rover Canada. "After such an exciting weekend following these amazing athletes through the sprawling land of Kenauk, we've found the four competitors who we feel will represent Canada best in the Land Rover G4 Challenge International Selections event in the UK and then possibly the G4 Challenge Finals in 2009."

The final event last weekend brought teams winding through mud in their LR3's at the Land Rover Experience Driving School training course. Competitors had to maneuver through challenging precision driving courses and also guide his or her teammate through a course from the passenger seat as their teammate was blindfolded in the driver's seat. These kinds of skills and ability to work as a team will come in handy through the adventures these athletes will face in England.

"This was just an unbelievable experience," said Deschamps. "It was a weekend of constant overstimulation and I haven't slept in nearly two days, but it doesn't matter because I'm so excited. The course in Montebello was challenging and beautiful at the same time and being able to drive a Land Rover that can handle just about anything felt like reaching the highest peak!"

Seventeen athletes, mountains ascended and descended, kilometer upon kilometer to pass in canoe and on bike, bruised legs, lifted spirits, are all part of the adventure with worthy Land Rovers and amateur athletes pushing the limits of human potential, discovering hidden talents, and ultimately living life to the fullest - the Land Rover G4 Challenge Quest for a Cure was all that and more.

Log on to www.landroverG4challenge.com as Mueller, Deschamps, Outerbridge, and Cameron strive to become the first Canadians to win an international G4 competition.

Land Rover G4 Challenge

Land Rover has a lasting heritage of adventure, with one of the best known expeditions run in 1970 when two Range Rovers became the first vehicles to complete a land crossing of the Darien Gap swamplands that divide North America from South America. The Land Rover G4 Challenge was inaugurated in 2003, when Belgian fighter pilot Rudi Thoelen emerged victorious from a cliff hanging finale in Moab, Utah. The next Challenge, in 2006, went deep into rugged, remote locations in Thailand, Laos, Brazil and Bolivia, coming to an end at an altitude of over 13,000 feet with South African Martin Dreyer emerging victorious.

Quest for a Cure

Quest for a Cure is a registered not for profit organization raising funds and awareness for cancer treatment in the National Capital Region founded by Ottawa firefighters and adventure racers with the goal to promote high quality adventure/sport fundraising events that challenge competitors both physically and mentally, while increasing awareness of cancer care in our community. All funds raised support the world class care and treatment provided by the Ottawa Hospital Regional Cancer Centre.

Since 1948 Land Rover has been manufacturing authentic 4x4s that represent true 'breadth of capability' across the model range. Defender, LR2, LR3, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover each define the world's 4x4 sectors, with 78% of this model range exported to over 140 countries. Land Rover employs 8,500 people and supports a further 40,000 jobs supported in the supply chain.

Land Rover takes its responsibility to the environment seriously. Emissions have been cut with all new models and, together with Jaguar, it is investing Pounds Sterling 700m on technology specifically aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Also, since September 2006, carbon dioxide generated by Land Rover manufacturing activities and UK customer vehicle use has been balanced through an industry leading offset program run by Climate Care.
