SOPHIA-ANTIPOLIS, FRANCE -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/08/08 -- UDcast, a leading provider ofwireless IP broadcast solutions, announced today that its UDgateway®satellite-delivered Internet access appliance is installed in the Wi-Fiequipment and servers as part of a mobile Internet trial in three trains ofthe TGV East of SNCF (High-Speed Trains, East of the French NationalRailway Network). The trial is a hybrid satellite Wi-Fi solution created specifically for theneeds of the SNCF services portal. The solution assures service continuityup to 320 km/h (173mph), as well as maximizes flow, allowing a highernumber of users to log in to the service at the same time. Orange BusinessServices are the official contractors for the project, encompassing serviceintegration, communication structure and part of the portal's content.UDcast is Orange's provider for the trial.
"UDcast solutions enable satellite Internet services that are efficient andlow cost in several mobile environments such as civil and military ships, trucks and other mobility projects," said Jas Saini, CEO of UDcast. "We arevery happy to participate in the trial with Orange contributing to theservice on board of High-Speed Trains in France."
The services portal offered in SNCF trains is based on a non-stop Internetconnection that is highly secured and efficient. These aspects are ensuredthanks to UDcast UDgateways that are integrated by Orange Business Servicesinto their servers.
In terms of performance, the UDgateway enhances IP transmissions that areotherwise slowed by the satellite's delay. UDcast's equipment adaptsprotocols like TCP and HTTP in order to optimize the bandwidth and increasethe rapidity of file sending; the data compression mechanisms allow fasterdata exchanges and use less bandwidth. The UDgateway can encrypt all thecommunications and transmissions established between TGV and the satelliteInternet service provider, as well as integrate a firewall functionprotecting onboard networks from eventual Internet attacks.
