NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 01/13/08 -- Con Edison is closely monitoring theapproaching winter storm that is expected to hit our region tonight andtomorrow. The company will have extra crews and support personnel workingaround the clock to respond to any power outages.Con Edison offers the following storm tips to customers to help weather thepossible effects of a storm:
- If you see downed electrical wires, do not go near them. Treat all downedwires as if they are live. Never attempt to move them or touch them withany object. Be mindful that downed wires can be hidden from view by snow,tree limbs, leaves or water.
- Report all downed wires to Con Edison and your local police departmentimmediately. If a power line falls on your car while you're in it, stayinside the vehicle and wait for emergency personnel.
- To report a power interruption at your home, call Con Edison's toll-freecustomer service number 1-800-75-CON ED (1-800-752-6633) or log on to ourWeb site at www.conEd.com. When reporting an outage, have your Con Edisonaccount number available, if possible, and report whether your neighborshave also lost power.
- Check to make sure your flashlights and any battery-operated radios ortelevisions are in working order. Use candles and oil lamps with care.Also, make sure you have a supply of extra batteries. Weather updates andnews on restorations of electrical service can be heard on most local radioand television stations.
In addition, the company is in close contact with the New York City Officeof Emergency Management and the Westchester County Department of EmergencyServices to coordinate storm-response activities if needed.
