NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/04/08 -- By day, two dozen Con Edison engineers safelyhelp to deliver electricity, gas and steam to New Yorkers.By night, they work alongside high school students from New York City andWestchester County as mentors in the FIRST Robotics competition.
The engineers will be cheering their teams' robots tomorrow and Sunday atthe Javits Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The FIRST Robotics program inspires high school students to think aboutapplying physics and mechanics plus electronics and teamwork to create aworking robot, which is tested through a series of exercises on theconvention floor.
The Con Edison engineers and volunteers devote thousands of hours to thestudents' projects.
