NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/11/08 -- With spring cleaning time here, New Yorkersseeking to freshen up their homes and get a head start on the hectic summermonths have a new ally for disposing of electronic clutter, or e-waste, inan environmentally responsible fashion.

Con Edison is partnering with the NYC Department of Sanitation and theLower East Side Ecology Center (LESEC) to sponsor a "Spring Cleaning"recycling event at Staten Island's Fresh Kills Composting Site on Saturday,April 12th and Sunday, April 13th between 8am to 2pm. The site is at 450West Service Rd. near Exit 7 off Route 440.

"Supporting this effort is a logical extension of Con Edison's EnergyNYprogram, which helps customers find ways to make energy efficient decisionsat home," said Randolph S. Price, vice president for Environment, Healthand Safety at Con Edison. "The E-Waste Recycling Program offers Islanders aplace to unload out-of date, used electronics in an environmentally safeand responsible manner."

This "Spring Cleaning" recycling event encourages city residents to turn inunwanted e-waste, or donate gently used clothing and linens to localcharitable organizations. Computers, monitors, keyboards, mice, televisions, VCRs, copiers and cell phones are common electronic waste ore-waste.

E-waste contains hazardous materials that, if not disposed of properly, canharm the environment. Recycling e-waste is a proactive approach on animportant environmental issue.
