BOCA RATON, FL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/11/08 -- Neptune Industries, Inc. (OTCBB: NPDI),today applauded the recommendations of the USDA Panel on Organic Seafoodwhich issued new guidelines specifically excluding wild fish (fishmeal)from the production of organic seafood, and said the decision represents animportant step forward in the company's efforts to obtain an "organic"label for Ento-Protein(TM), Neptune's insect-based alternative to fishmeal. In its recommendations, the USDA Panel stated, "Fishmeal and fish oilproduced from wild fish and other wild aquatic animals, or any portion ofthe wild fish that do not qualify as provided in this section cannot beused in organic production of aquatic animals, or certified or labeled asorganic."
According to Neptune CEO Mr. Ernest Papadoyianis, who recently addressedthe Organic Standards panel in Washington, D.C., "These recommendationsstrongly support the need for sustainable protein alternatives for fish andshrimp diets. Neptune is developing such an alternative, which it callsEnto-Protein(TM) and which we believe currently enjoys first-mover statusin this emerging marketplace."
Ento-Protein(TM) is a high protein fishmeal replacement derived from thecontrolled, mass production of select insect species, for use in fish andlivestock diets. Ento-Protein is undergoing final examination atMississippi State University before being released to the market later thisyear.
Papadoyianis believes the panel's recommendations increase the probabilitythat a true organic standard will be set by the USDA. He said, "The pricesfor organic-labeled food tend to carry a substantial premium to non-organicfood, and we would expect that such a premium would also apply in theorganic feed marketplace."
About Neptune Industries
Neptune Industries is a technology company which from inception has beencommitted to achieving sustainable, eco-friendly aquaculture by innovatingand pioneering a "total and comprehensive integrated systems solution"approach to the mission critical challenges facing the Aquaculture Industrytoday. Dwindling supplies of wild caught stocks used for fishmeal, and thecontinued environmental damage, escapism, and disease caused byself-polluting net pen systems, have severely restricted Industry growth ona global basis.
Our mission is to utilize our expanding production operations base ofall-natural, sustainable farm raised seafood products, as the workingplatform for the development of innovative, next-generation technologies todissolve current industry bottlenecks. Further, our commitment is one ofsystems integration that targets "zero waste." Fish, organic produce, andwaste-to-energy systems synergize to form a production model withmulti-revenue streams.
Thus far, the Company has applied for patents and has made significantprogress in the development of three technology platforms, one of which itcalls "Ento-Protein," the second of which it calls "Aqua-Sphere," and thethird of which is known as "Aquaponics." Taken together as components of awhole -- this total integrated system solution approach addresses what thecompany believes to be THE three critical problems stymieing the growth ofthe Aquaculture industry which will invariably cause it to fallincreasingly short of growing world wide demand.
Aqua-Sphere(TM) is a state-of-the-art scalable, modular, floating closedcontainment system that is capable of concentrating and removing solidwaste, eliminating predation and escapement, utilizing alternative energyfor remote applications, and isolating crop from the environment.
Ento-Protein(TM) is a truly revolutionary development pioneered by Neptuneto be a high quality, sustainable protein derived from insects which isintended to be a replacement for the rapidly depleting fishmeal made fromwild caught feedstock species, and is currently a $7 billion market.
Aquaponics is the existing practice of integrating fish and plantproduction through soil-less culture (hydroponics) using the waste effluentas fertilizer. Neptune has advanced the methodology through the use of theAqua-Sphere(TM). The hydroponic system provides a revenue stream off of thewaste component of the fish production through very high quality organicherbs and vegetables. In addition, as another part of the water treatmentand Aquaponics system a derivative product of algae is grown in floatingsocks, which is 30x more productive than corn on a per acre basis, for theproduction of bio-diesel.
Finally to validate and test Neptune's solutions and technologies, theCompany operates a sustainable fish farming facility in Florida City,Florida called Blue Heron Aqua Farms, Inc. Blue Heron Aqua Farms currentlyis one of the leading producers of hybrid striped bass, which it marketsnationally and internationally as Everglades Striped Bass(TM).
