MILPITAS, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/25/08 -- Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-performanceanalog semiconductors, today introduced groundbreaking new 200MHz singlesupply video drivers, the ISL59833 and ISL59837, each equipped with charge pumps that create negative voltageand remove the need for external negative rails.

The new ISL59833 and ISL59837 video drivers deliver true single supplyoperation of video amplifiers using a single 3.3V power supply. Chargepumps on board each device creates a negative voltage of -1.6V from the3.3V power supply, eliminating the need for external negative rails and thecomponents required for a negative power supply.

Both new drivers handle video signals with black level at ground and thesync pulse below ground, enabling significant reductions in board space andtotal component cost. They are ideal for systems that require output swingbelow ground but lack a negative power supply, such as single supplyconsumer applications like projectors and video conference equipment.

The video drivers provide 200MHz -3dB bandwidth and 50MHz 0.1dB bandwidthwith a fixed gain of 2 output buffer. Both devices have an enable pin topower down the op amps, reducing the current to 60mA. The ISL59837 also hasa power down feature for the charge-pump, further reducing the current toless than 1 mA. DC-accurate output coupling eliminates the need for largeoutput AC coupling capacitors.

Generating the negative voltage internally allows for DC-accurate couplingof video onto a 75 ohm double-terminated line. The buffers have anintegrated 6dB of compensation, so there is no need for externalgain-setting resistors. An external reference voltage can be applied to theREF pin to shift the analog video level down, which enables designers toadjust DC levels of the signal or remove a DAC offset.

Pricing and Availability

The ISL59833 and ISL59837 are available now in 16-ld QSOPs and are pricedat $1.79 in 1,000-unit quantities.

About Intersil's Video Products

From high-performance videoamplifiers to differentialline equalizers, Intersil's portfolio of video products can address anyportion of the analog signal chain. The number and variety of videoproducts on the market continues to grow. With the expansion of HDTV andhigh-resolution RGB (red, green, blue) signals, the most commonpoint-to-point connection for a video signal is analog.Intersil's video ICs provide many solutions for moving these signalsaround. Whether it is transmitting RGB down CAT-5 or switching 32 securityvideo feeds, Intersil has a solution. Also, Intersil's ISL5944x family extends the available bandwidth of RGB multiplexers onthe market from 500 MHz up to 1GHz -- the first time this barrier has beenbroken. Intersil continues to deliver best-in-class video solutions for itscustomers, addressing every piece of the signal chain.
