Homeowners, religious institutions, and businesses with centralair-conditioning are eligible to join more than 20,000 customers whoalready have received programmable thermostats and are taking control oftheir summer electricity use. Customers save energy and stay comfortable byusing air conditioning only when it is needed.
With these high-tech thermostats, customers in New York City andWestchester County can program their central air-conditioning systemsmanually or remotely through the Internet. These programmable thermostatsallow customers to:
- Adjust cooling temperatures based on personal preferences.
- Automatically turn the air conditioner on and off.
- Use the Internet or manual override options to change the thermostatsettings.
The program also allows Con Edison to adjust the thermostats remotely toreduce high demand on the electric system. Customers may override ConEdison's adjustment, if necessary.
