CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/02/08 -- Graduate students at the University of Calgary witnessed a solid investment in their own future thanks to a partnership between the Graduate Students' Association (GSA) Mentorship Program and ATCO Power.

The new partnership, which was initiated by Anne Tingle, Director for the Program on campus and Esther Kantner, Senior Manager - Human Resources at ATCO Power, was realized as part of a general initiative towards keeping student-mentor partnerships fresh, responsive and beneficial to both parties. To that end, ATCO Power has agreed to create and sponsor eight new mentorship opportunities for those interested in pursuing eventual careers within the power generation industry.

"This partnership marks an extremely rewarding time to be a part of the GSA's Mentorship Program. Now, more than ever, the Program is working to ensure that graduate students on campus have an optimal mentor experience - from networking to learning more about their chosen industry to simply enhancing their people skills. ATCO Power's investment in the collective futures of these students is symbolic of their crucial role in Alberta's increasingly knowledge-based economy," said Anne Tingle, Director for the Mentorship Program on campus.

"ATCO Power is committed to establishing itself as the "employer of choice" for grad students wanting to pursue diverse career opportunities within the power generation sector," stated Rick Brouwer, President, ATCO Power. "We are pleased to support the University's Graduate Students' Association in this innovative and mutually beneficial mentorship program and having the opportunity to meet such talented individuals."

The Mentorship Program, initiated by the Graduate Students' Association on campus in 2005 and funded by University of Calgary, is a networking-based initiative which pairs up graduate students with "mentors" in their fields of study. Over a single academic year, students and their chosen mentors work towards mutually realized goals and enhance their respective skill sets, with the end goal of providing students with an increased sense of what an industry-based career in their field of study entails.

"Initiatives such as the Mentorship Program are among our proudest accomplishments as an organization committed to improving the collective experiences of our members. I am especially pleased to see the Program - and by extension, the GSA - gain additional recognition within the greater community by virtue of our consistent reputation for excellence. This partnership with ATCO Power and our Mentorship Program is tangible evidence of that," said Kelly Goss, VP Academic for the Graduate Students' Association.

The Graduate Students' Association (GSA) of the University of Calgary was established in 1967 and has approximately 5,000 members, including full and part-time masters and doctoral students. The GSA promotes and serves the academic, intellectual, cultural and social interests of all graduate students at the University of Calgary. The GSA represents the collective interests - but not individual opinions - of graduate students to governing bodies of the university, all levels of government and the surrounding community of Calgary. The University of Calgary GSA is a member of the Alberta Graduate Council and the Canadian Federation of Students (Local 21).

ATCO Power, part of the ATCO Group of Companies, is a world-class developer, construction manager, owner and operator of technologically advanced independent power generation facilities. ATCO Group, an Alberta-based worldwide organization of companies with assets of approximately $8.0 billion and more than 7,800 employees, is comprised of three main business divisions: Power Generation, Utilities (natural gas and electricity transmission and distribution) and Global Enterprises (industrials, technology, logistics and energy services).
