Former Vivendi Universal MP3.com exec joins Musicrypt Inc.
Addition of Chris Montgomery further strengthens US market position
TORONTO, March 28 /CNW/ - Musicrypt Inc., (TSX-V: MCT, OTCBB:MCYPF), the industry's leading secure digital media distribution provider, is pleased to announce that Chris Montgomery, former CEO of Vivendi Universal MP3.com Europe and senior executive at MP3.com Inc. (San Diego) will be joining the company as Executive Vice President Marketing and Product Management. Overseeing marketing and product development, Montgomery will continue the expansion in the US market as well as generate new revenue streams for the company.
Chris Montgomery said, "The opportunity that lies before Musicrypt is significant. They have clearly demonstrated the value they create to their music industry clients in Canada and have made great strides in the US market. It is my desire to help them achieve the same level of success in the US that they have achieved in Canada." He also stated, "The DMDS technology is transferable to other sectors of the entertainment and media industries and this will create new revenue streams for the company as well as transform other long-standing business models."
Musicrypt's DMDS technology plays a vital role in the delivery of promotional music and audio files from content owners to their final destination - radio and television stations, reviewers, and even internally at record labels. The revenue opportunity is estimated to be in excess of $100 million.
Commenting on the announcement, John Heaven, President and CEO of Musicrypt said, "Chris' extensive background in the digital entertainment sector will add tremendous value to our efforts to dominate the US market and expand into Europe. He understands the traditional music industry as well as the ever-fluid digital world that we live in. We are confident that he will help take the company to new heights."
Prior to joining Musicrypt, Montgomery spent four years at Vivendi Universal / MP3.com in the US and Europe, where he served as CEO, MP3.com Europe; CMO, Vivendi Universal Net; SVP, Digital Media Management Vivendi Universal and VP of Subscription Services, MP3.com. Montgomery was the driving force behind MP3.com's launch of the first on-demand subscription model on the Internet. Montgomery, who achieved an MBA from the University of Edinburgh, also spent four years at BMG Entertainment and held positions at Diamond Multimedia and RioPort.com. He has earned degrees from the University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto, and an MBA from the University of Edinburgh (UK) where he is currently a Visiting Professor of business.
