Former Vice President and General Manager, Minera Hecla de Mexico, Joins Silver Dragon's Management Team
DURANGO, Mexico--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 2006--Silver Dragon Resources Inc. (OTCBB:SDRG - News) and its wholly owned Mexican subsidiary, Silver Dragon Mining de Mexico S.A. de C.V., today announced that Alastair H. Summers, a former Vice President and General Manager in Mexico for Hecla Mining (NYSE:HL - News), has joined Silver Dragon's management team as Senior Project Manager, Mexico.
Commenting on the appointment, Douglas Wood, Silver Dragon's Operations Manager, Mexico, stated, "Al has 45 years of experience in mine development and production, 9 of which were with Minera Hecla, Hecla's wholly owned subsidiary in Mexico. Al's appointment represents a very strong addition to our management team. In today's robust resource market, professionals of Al's caliber are highly sought after and we are very pleased he has decided to join Silver Dragon. Al's knowledge of the Mexican mining community, considerable managerial expertise, technical field skills and proven mine development abilities will be invaluable as we expand our operations in Mexico."
From 1990 to 1992 Al was a Senior Mining Engineer for Hecla Mining Company, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and from 1992 to 2001, Al was Vice President and General Manager for Minera Hecla in Mexico, where he was responsible for the design, construction, operation and reclamation of the highly successful La Choya open pit - heap leach gold mine. He also identified and sponsored the acquisition and development of the high grade San Sebastian underground silver and gold mine, including the purchase of the 500 ton per day Velardena Merrill Crowe mill. From January 2000 to September 2000 Al was also President and General Manager of Minera Hecla Venezolana where he initiated improvements to the La Camorra operation, resulting in production increases from 85,000 to 250,000 ounces of gold per year.
Al earned his BA Sc., Mining Engineering, from the University of British Columbia, Canada in 1961. He is registered as a Professional Engineer in Colorado and a Professional Geologist in Idaho.
